01 The Basics
What is data commercialization?
It is the process of turning data your company already produces into a licensed asset that AI labs
pay for. You keep ownership. The lab receives a defined license to use an approved package of your data for purposes such as training, fine-tuning or evaluating AI models.
Why do AI labs pay for company data?
Public internet data has largely been used up. Labs now need real-world data that shows how
businesses actually operate: how work moves across emails, documents, systems, decisions,
revisions and outcomes. That connected context is rare, and labs will pay for it.
What does DataSupply do?
We are data commercialization brokers. We assess your data, package it for the buyers who value it most, put it in front of vetted AI labs, negotiate the deal, and keep you compliant and protected from first call to final payment. We only partner with labs that meet our top 0.01% credibility standard.
What does a forward deployed engineer do?
Every client is assigned one of our forward deployed engineers. They are your technical point person: they review each lab's security and data requirements, help you build the data manifest, coordinate the secure transfer, and make sure what is delivered matches what was agreed.
02 Fit and Eligibility
What kinds of data qualify?
Depending on scope, rights and sensitivity, a data package can include:
What makes data valuable?
Quality and volume together. Value tends to increase with years of operating history, consistent
workflows, many people contributing, and records that show outcomes, not just activity. Data that is unique to your industry, or hard to get anywhere else, is worth more.
Who is a strong fit?
Established businesses with real operating history, typically 15 or more employees and several years of digital records. Strong candidates have repeatable workflows and can clearly identify the data they own.
What rights do we need?
You must own the data or have the right to license it. That includes the right to share any personal
information about individuals in the data, or a plan to remove or transform it first. We review rights
with you before any data is marketed.
03 Process and Timeline
How does the process work?
How long does it take?
It depends on the lab, the size of the data and how quickly the manifest comes together. Some deals close in weeks. Larger or more sensitive packages take longer. Having exact storage figures ready for your discovery call is the single biggest thing that speeds things up.
Does expressing interest commit us to anything?
No. The discovery call and initial review are for assessing fit and scope. Nothing is marketed, shared or licensed without your written approval.
04 Money
How is compensation determined?
Offers depend on the scope, size, type, history and uniqueness of the data, the permitted uses, and whether the license is exclusive. A lab makes a final offer only after it reviews your manifest. Because different labs value different data, putting your package in front of several labs is how we find the best price.
When do we get paid?
Most labs pay after the final delivery is accepted. Acceptance review periods vary by lab and are set out in each license agreement. Your engineer will tell you the exact timeline before you sign.
What does DataSupply charge?
Nothing upfront. We earn a success commission only when a deal closes and you are paid. The full
schedule is in Schedule A of the Data Commercialization Agreement.
05 Ownership and Protection
Do we give up ownership of our data?
No. You license the data. You do not sell ownership. You keep all rights you hold in your data.
Can we license the same data to more than one lab?
Often, yes. We aim for non-exclusive licenses so the same data can earn from more than one buyer. Some labs ask for exclusivity or a period where you cannot license the same data elsewhere. We flag those terms, explain what they cost you, and negotiate them or price them in.
How is our data kept safe?
Initial reviews use descriptions and counts, not raw data. Transfers use encrypted, time-limited, company-specific channels, and personal information is removed or transformed. See the Data Security and Transfer Overview and Protecting Personal Information guides for details.
